Women's and Men's Harriers Finish Seventh and Ninth, Respectively

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Green Bay women's cross country team placed seventh at the 2007 Horizon League Championships, while the men took ninth at Saturday's event, which was held at the Sunset Hills Park Course in Valparaiso, Ind.

With 33 total points, Butler won the women's crown by 27 points over second-place Milwaukee (60) and by 29 over third-place Loyola (62). Valparaiso (118), UIC (145), Detroit (196), Green Bay (198), Wright State (210), Cleveland State (225) and Youngstown State (233) placed fourth through 10th, respectively.

Jolene Sell (Menasha, Wis.) had the best finish by any Phoenix runner, as she placed 20th in the 5K event after crossing the line in 19:51.8. Teammates Kendelle Krause (38th, 20:43.8), Callie Bartel (41st, 20:46.1) and Emily Farrell (42nd, 20:47.3) also had strong finishes for Green Bay.

Butler's men dominated the race, taking the top five individual spots to win with a perfect score of 15 points. Loyola (100), Youngstown State (101), Detroit (111), Valparaiso (112), Wright State (123), UIC (127), Milwaukee (182) and Green Bay (242) rounded out the scoring.

Ryan Miller (Mequon, Wis.) was the top performer for Green Bay, placing 25th. He posted a time of 27:22.6 in the 8K race. Luke Karban also had a top-50 placement, as he finished 46th in 28:03.7.

Green Bay concludes its 2007 season on Saturday, Nov. 10, when the team participates in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bloomington, Ind.
