GREEN BAY, Wis. -
Joshua Okoampa, a senior forward on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's soccer team, was named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas Men's Division I All-America Third Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Friday.
Okoampa is UW-Green Bay's first NSCAA All-American selection since 1992, when Tim Dunne earned the prestigious distinction as a second-team honoree. He becomes just the eighth player in program history to earn All-America honors at any level.
"We're extremely proud of Josh representing Green Bay soccer; it's great that he is receiving recognition for his efforts," said head coach Tom Poitras. "Josh's commitment and drive for success has raised the expectations of our entire program. His leadership has helped motivate his teammates to strive for the same standard."
Okoampa's senior season was one for the ages, as he was the Horizon League leader in scoring with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points. He was named the league's offensive player of the year and finished his career at UW-Green Bay ranked fifth all-time with 36 career goals.
The honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, as part of the 2007 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. For more information on the NSCAA, visit www.nscaa.com
