DETROIT - For the 20th straight season the Green Bay women's basketball team started the Horizon League season with a win, as the Phoenix defeated Detroit 79-58 Thursday night at Calihan Hall. The victory, Green Bay's fifth straight, moves the Phoenix to 9-3 on the season while Detroit falls to 2-9.

Groh tallied 14 of the team's first 26 points, making her first 7 shots, including four field goals and a trio of free throws. She finished with just one miss, a three-pointer, while going 6-6 at the line.

Juniors Rachel Porath and Erin Templin also reached double figures in the win with 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Phoenix, among the nation's leaders in three-point percentage, kept pace from downtown going 8-15 from long range.

Green Bay led by as much as 13 points in the first half before settling on an 11-point lead at the break. Then, for the second straight outing an early second half rally boosted the Phoenix, as the team scored the first 10 points to take a 21-point advantage.

Detroit pulled within 10 points in the half, but the Phoenix held the Titans without a field goal for a six-minute stretch to keep a 20-point lead the rest of the way.

Green Bay owned a 21-6 advantage at the free throw line as the Phoenix had just 11 personal fouls in the game.

Detroit was led by Sandi Brown's team-best 11 points. The Titans posted seven blocked shots in the contest.
