Women's Basketball Shoots Lights Out in 87-61 Win Over Cleveland State

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team (11-3, 3-0) took sole possession of the Horizon League lead Thursday evening with its convincing 87-61 win over Cleveland State at the Kress Center. With the setback, the Vikings dropped to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in league action.

Green Bay had the hoop in its crosshairs all night, as the team started the game 11-of-13 from the field to take an early 32-11 lead as the Phoenix never looked back. Green Bay finished the game shooting a blistering 66.7 percent from the field, good for second-best in team history. The result was Green Bay's highest offensive output of the season.

Five players reached double figures while three more had seven or more points in the balanced attack. Kati Harty led the way with 15 points, including four three-pointers, while Heather Golden poured in a career-best 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Erin Templin, Lavesa Glover and Rachel Porath also had double figures, while Staci Beckel chipped in a career-best eight points on the night. Templin's 12-point effort was thanks to perfect shooting, going 5-5 from the field and 2-2 at the free throw line.

After shooting 64 percent in the first half, Green Bay refused to cool down, shooting an even more impressive 69.2 percent in the final 20 minutes. Green Bay's lead peaked at 33 midway through the second half before the team settled on its 26-point margin.

Cleveland State's leading scorers Kailey Klein and Brittany Korth were held in check, as each was held well below their season average. Robyn Hoying bolstered the Vikings' effort with 20 points, including 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range, while Angel Roque added 15 points, all on three-pointers.

Green Bay out-rebounded the Vikings 34-28 and had a 48-12 lead in points in the paint. The Phoenix bench out-scored Cleveland State's reserves 30-8.

The Phoenix closes out its brief home stand Saturday when it entertains Youngstown State at noon at the Kress Center.
