Women's Basketball Shuts Down Butler 73-58

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team (13-3, 5-0 Horizon League) won its ninth straight contest Thursday evening as the Phoenix defense clamped down in its 73-58 win over Butler at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Four Phoenix starters scored in double figures, led by Lavesa Glover's 15 points, as the junior center was 7-of-11 from the field, adding six rebounds and two blocked shots. Kati Harty added 13 points while Erin Templin and Kayla Groh both had 11 points and six assists.

Green Bay held the Bulldogs to just 27 percent shooting in the first half on the way to an 11-point halftime lead and gave up just one Butler field goal in the first six minutes of action.

The Phoenix held Butler leading scorers Lade Akande and Susan Lester under their season averages. Akande tallied eight points, playing just 17 minutes with foul trouble while Lester finished with a team-high 13 points, with five points coming in the final two minutes of the game.

The Phoenix led by as much as 23 midway through the second half, gathering steam from just five second-half turnovers. Aided by Groh and Templin's helpful efforts, Green Bay posted a season-high 21 assists.

Green Bay also tallied a 34-29 advantage in rebounds, with Rachel Porath leading the way with a game-high seven caroms.

Kayla Tetschlag had her best outing since returning to action two games ago after missing six games with an injury. Tetschlag was 4-of-6 from the field for eight points.

Butler (12-3, 2-2) had 10 different players find the scoring column, but only Lester broke into double figures.

Green Bay returns to action Saturday when the Phoenix takes on Valparaiso at 1:35 p.m. in Valparaiso, Ind.
