Women's Basketball Surges Past UIC 75-60
Jan. 26, 2008
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team (15-4, 7-1) pulled away from a nip and tuck contest Saturday night against UIC with a key 10-2 run late in the game while holding the Flames to just three field goals in the final six minutes as the Phoenix posted a 75-60 win at the Kress Center. Junior Erin Templin followed up her career-best game from Wednesday against Loyola with her first collegiate double-double, notching 11 points with 10 rebounds in the win. Rachel Porath led the Phoenix in the scoring column with 17 points, including 11 in the second half, as all five starters were in double figures. The Flames (6-12, 2-5) entered Saturday's contest on a roll after bumping off then-first place Milwaukee Wednesday and kept the Phoenix on its toes all night. Neither team had a double-figure lead until Green Bay's critical run, as the game featured five ties and four lead changes, all in the first half. With Green Bay leading by just eight on a jumper by UIC's Briana Hinkle, the Phoenix clamped down the rest of the way. Four of Green Bay's five starters scored during the 10-2 run to take a 71-55 lead. Templin led the charge on the glass as Green Bay out-rebounded UIC 39-29, with 33 defensive rebounds. Lavesa Glover had nine rebounds on the night, falling just short of her second career double-double. Green Bay also had a 10-point advantage at the free throw line, 13-3. Kayla Groh, who finished with 14 points, went 5-5 at the stripe. UIC was paced by Hinkle's hot hand, as the sophomore guard was 11-of-18 from the field for a game-high 23 points. Jessie Miller also scored in double figures with 13 points. Green Bay hits the road for a three-game road swing, starting Feb. 2 with instate and Horizon League rival Milwaukee at 2 p.m. |
