But Green Bay spread its offense quickly as five others helped the Phoenix take an 18-9 lead with 10:31 to go in the first half. The Phoenix pushed its lead to 14 at the halftime break and with an 18-6 run to start the second half, Green Bay owned a 28-point, 57-29 lead with 10:56 left in the game. Green Bay would lead by as much as 31 points before settling on a 28-point margin. In the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, Youngstown State scored 56 points in the second half in a five-point contest in Green Bay. But the Phoenix clamped down on the Penguins, holding the home team to just 30.8 percent from the field and a paltry 14.3 percent from three-point range. Youngstown State's 47 points was its second-lowest total this season. For the second straight outing Green Bay out-rebounded its foe, posting a 38-29 advantage on the boards.
