MADISON, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team (4-3) could not hold off a strong defensive effort by Wisconsin Tuesday night as the Phoenix dropped an 81-58 result to the Badgers at the Kohl Center.

"When we got shots in the first half we could score," said Green Bay head coach Matt Bollant. "We just didn't take care of the ball. We didn't have that confidence we usually have."

Kayla Groh led the Phoenix with 13 points, all in the second half. Green Bay's Rachel Porath had nine points, all in the first half.

Wisconsin (6-3) was led by Jolene Anderson's 20 points, as she led five players in double figures. Janese Banks added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Green Bay committed an uncharacteristic 16 first-half turnovers and finished with 23 miscues on the night. The Phoenix suffered through five straight possessions with turnovers as Wisconsin mounted a 12-point first half lead before settling on a 41-30 lead at the break.

After Green Bay pulled to within 10 on Groh's first field goal of the night with 17:02 to go in the second half, Wisconsin clipped off a 13-2 run over three minutes to take a 58-37 lead. From there, Green Bay got no closer than 15 points before the Badgers finished with the 23-point win.

The Badgers out-rebounded Green Bay 37-25, and sparked offensively with 50.7 percent shooting and a 2-to-1 assist/turnover ratio.

The Phoenix did get back into the groove at the free throw line against the Badgers, shooting a white-hot 84.6 percent on 22-of-26 shooting, led by 4-4 efforts by Erin Templin and Groh. Conversely Wisconsin struggled, going 8-21 from the charity stripe.

Green Bay returns home Saturday to start a three-game home stand with Northern Arizona at 3 p.m. at the Kress Center.
