Women's Basketball Travels to Youngstown State, Cleveland State
Feb. 6, 2008
GREEN BAY GAME DAY
Both of this week's contests will air live on AM 1400 WDUZ "The Fan" in the Green Bay area, with Bruce VandenPlas on the call. Live audio is also available here. Live stats and video are also available through Green Bay Athletics' website.
Green Bay enters its game at Youngstown State with a streak of 19 straight free throws after its 19-20 effort at Milwaukee. After Kati Harty missed Green Bay's first free throw of the game - which came at 17:13 mark of the second half - the Phoenix fired off 19 straight makes, including the team's critical 8-8 effort in the final two minutes. The team is shooting 80.2 percent from the free throw line in its 10 road games this season. Heading into its contest against Milwaukee, the Phoenix had struggled not only this season in rebounding (the team had just a +0.8 rebounds per game advantage on its opponents) but had been on the short end against its instate foes the last five outings. Green Bay ended that streak with its 35-26 advantage over Milwaukee on the boards. Leading the way was freshman Kayla Tetschlag, who missed tying her career-high with a game-best nine rebounds. Scouting Youngstown State: The Pengins split its week of action heading into Thursday's game, as the Penguins posted a season-high 92 points in its win over Valparaiso Jan. 31. But YSU followed up with its second-lowest point total of the year in a 63-48 setback at Butler two days later. Heather Karner leads Youngstown State offensively with 13.5 points per game, while Tiara Scott is the lone other player for YSU in double figures scoring with 12.9 ppg. Lauren Branson is 28th in the NCAA in assists (5.3 apg).
Former Green Bay assistant coach Tisha Hill is in her fifth season at Youngstown State. With two more victories, Hill will tie her winningest season at YSU. She owns a 41-91 mark.
Scouting Cleveland State: The Vikings Are on a five-game winning streak heading into their contest Thursday with Milwaukee. Leading Cleveland State is two-time defending Horizon League player of the week Kailey Klein. The sophomore has been on a tear this season, as she leads the league with 19.0 points per game. She is the only player for Cleveland State, however, to be averaging double figures in scoring.
Former University of Wisconsin assistant coach and Wisconsin native Kate Peterson Abiad is in her fifth season at Cleveland State, where she is having her most successful campaign with the Vikings in 2007-08. Peterson is 31-94 overall.
