Green Bay Women's Tennis Coach Karen Neuman Resigns
May 13, 2008
GREEN BAY, Wis. - After nine seasons as the head women's tennis coach at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Karen Neuman has announced her decision to resign. Neuman was just the second coach in the program's history, replacing Jan Pum, who held the post for 25 years prior to retiring in the spring of 2000. "We would like to thank Karen for her years of dedication to the women's tennis program," Athletics Director Ken Bothof said. "During her time at Green Bay, she did a tremendous job working with her student-athletes both on and off the courts. We thank her and wish her the best." The women's tennis program recently earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for ranking among the top 10 percent of all tennis teams in the recently released Academic Progress Report (APR). The Green Bay women's tennis team had a perfect score of 1,000 in the APR multi-year ratings. Neuman, a United States Professional Tennis Association certified pro, has been a fixture in the Wisconsin tennis ranks for over 30 years as a coach and a player. A state finalist as a prep at Appleton East, Neuman played collegiate tennis at No. 1 singles and doubles for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Following a coaching stint in Kettering, Ohio, Neuman coached junior tennis in Europe while playing professionally in a women's satellite circuit for five years. Green Bay will begin a search for her successor immediately. --www.uwgbathletics.com-- |
